Put out that cigarette or you’ll get a ticket! That could be heard all over college and university campuses in Illinois – including MacMurray College, Illinois College, and Lincoln Land Community College’s Jacksonville campus – beginning Wednesday.
Parts of the state’s Illinois Smoke Free Campus Act go into effect on Wednesday, July 1st. Previously, Smoke Free Illinois said that smokers couldn’t light up within a certain distance of any doorway, but the new law takes it well beyond that. Smoking will not be allowed, indoors or outdoors, anywhere on college and university campuses in Illinois.
The law was signed last August by then-Governor Pat Quinn.
