Temporary Budget Passes Senate, Rauner Expected to Veto

The Illinois Senate on Wednesday approved a temporary one-month budget that includes money to pay state employees for their work in July. Governor Bruce Rauner, however, is expected to veto that budget.

A spokesman for the Governor says in a press release that “Speaker Madigan and the legislators he controls will leave town without a responsible, balanced budget, and without reforms while taking a pay raise for themselves.” Madigan says Rauner should sign the bill to make sure that state workers are paid for the month of July.

An emergency appeal to the Illinois Supreme Court by Attorney General Lisa Madigan to settle earlier conflicting court rulings about the continued payment of state employees through the budget impasse is still pending.
