BREAKING: State, AFSCME Agree to Two-Month Extension

Despite remaining far apart on major issues, according to AFSCME head Roberta Lynch, the state’s largest employee union and the Rauner administration have agreed to a two-month extension on the previous contact.

The agreement ensures that neither a strike by union members nor a lockout by the State of Illinois will occur before the end of the extension on September 30th.

Both sides have agreed to continue to negotiate in good faith, but the two parties don’t agree upon whether so-called “step increases” should be paid during the extension.

We’ll have more on this story as we get it.
