Attorney General Lisa Madigan has more time to file a possible appeal of a state Supreme Court ruling the struck down the 2013 pension reform law.
The motion for an extension filed last week with the U.S. Supreme Court asked for the August 6th appeal deadline to be delayed to September 10th.
The Attorney General’s office said that the request was routine and necessary because of the recent Cook County ruling striking down Chicago pension reform. The Cook County judge cited the state’s Supreme Court ruling on state pension reform being an unconstitutional diminishment of benefits when ruling Chicago pension reform unconstitutional.
The U.S. Supreme Court granted the state’s request.
