Rauner Administration Urging U of I to Block Wise Bonus Payment

Calling it “a major step in the wrong direction”, Governor Bruce Rauner’s administration is pushing the University of Illinois trustees to block a deal that would pay resigning Chancellor Phyllis Wise a $400,000 bonus.

The soon-to-be former chancellor’s contract calls for a $500,000 bonus after four years, but Wise agreed to a $400,000 payment instead – $100,000 for each year she served as the CEO for the U of I’s flagship campus.

Wise resigned last week amid investigation into the school’s athletic program over its treatment of athletes, a lawsuit over a rescinded job offer to a professor, and an email scandal.
