A main thoroughfare on the Illinois State Fairgrounds has been renamed in honor of the late Illinois Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka.
Topinka was a regular fixture at the Fair before her untimely death last December. Now, the woman known for her no-nonsense political style has a permanent place on the Fairgrounds.
Governor Bruce Rauner joined other top state officials and former staff members for the Tuesday morning ceremony to rename the stretch of road adjacent to the Food-a-Rama in honor of the former suburban Chicago newspaper reporter and editor.
State Director of Tourism Cory Jobe – a former Deputy Chief of Staff for Topinka – told the crowd that she loved the Fair and the people who were there each year.
