Governor Signs Law Offering Immunity to Minors in Alcohol Emergencies

Governor Bruce Rauner has signed a law that allows for immunity from prosecution to minors who call 911 to get help in a medical emergency involving alcohol.

Beginning January 1st, minors who make such a call would be eligible to receive protection from prosecution, even if they were also drinking along with the victim in the incident.

The new law would also apply to the victim. At least two dozen other states have similar laws on the books.
