Monday Stock Market Tumble Also Impacts Area Farmers

The stock market tumble on Monday not only affected Wall Street, but also soybean fields here in Illinois.

Recent financial moves by China have led to falling prices on both the New York Stock Exchange and the Chicago Board of Trade, with soybean prices hitting a six-year-low on Monday.

The Chinese have been the largest buyer of soybeans produced in the U.S. in recent years and some traders believe that China’s financial decisions lately are a sign of less demand for U.S. imports.

Illinois is the nation’s leading producer of soybeans.
