Springfield Moving Forward with Second City Lake

Plans for the city of Springfield’s backup water supply have taken another step forward.

Mayor Jim Langfelder says that the city and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources signed a plan over the weekend that calls for DNR to maintain the areas around the future Hunter Lake for recreational purposes and to protect the watershed.

Langfelder told a Springfield radio station on Monday that the next step is a meeting with DNR, the Illinois EPA, and the Governor’s Office to jumpstart the long-delayed project.

Langfelder says the city will continue to move forward with land purchases so that it can proceed with Hunter Lake as soon as construction permits are issued.
