University of Illinois Sued by Former Grad Student Over Sexual Harassment Claim Retaliation

The University of Illinois continues to deal with controversy at the start of the new school year.

In the wake of the resignations of both the Urbana-Champaign campus chancellor and provost, as well as the firing of football coach Tim Beckman, comes a lawsuit by a former U of I graduate student.

Hye-Young Park has filed a $6M suit against the school’s Board of Trustees and others, alleging that administrators retaliated against her after she claimed that a visiting researcher sexually harassed her.

Park says administrators told her that the researcher’s actions were not their responsibility, since Charles Secolsky was not a university employee.

Secolsky tells the Chicago Tribune that Park pursued him and denies the suit’s allegations.
