Union Groups Gather in Springfield for Labor Day, Vow to Continue Fight Against Rauner Demands

Union groups who gathered for Labor Day observances in Springfield Monday say the contract battle between Governor Bruce Rauner and AFSCME will be a pivotal moment in labor relations in the state.

Rauner won a key round last week when the Illinois House failed to override his veto of a bill that would have allowed binding arbitration if those talks come to a standstill.

But, union members say they will keep fighting for a fair deal…and to protect their ability to fight for their own rights at the bargaining table.

Rauner did not attend any Labor Day events on Monday, according to the official schedule released by his office.
