Quick Thinking by Sangamon County Woman Saves Life of Elderly Man on Railroad Tracks

The quick thinking and fast action of a 19-year-old mother from Auburn is credited with saving the life of an elderly man whose motorized scooter had become stuck on railroad tracks as a train approached on Tuesday.

Ashley Aldridge says she heard yelling from the direction of the tracks near her home in Auburn at about 1:30PM, then saw the gates of the crossing begin to come down.

Aldridge ran to the crossing and briefly struggled with 75-year-old Earl Moorman’s scooter before being able to pull the 200-pound man from the chair and clear of the tracks, seconds before the oncoming train destroyed the scooter.
