A team ritual for the Chicago Cubs this season has led to national attention for a Jacksonville man.
All season long, whenever a Cubs player has reached base, that player has faced the team’s dugout and rubbed his hands on his helmet toward his teammates.
Jacksonville resident Kyle Horton took that routine and created a replica batting helmet, complete with a pair of rubber hands that give the look of holding the helmet down on the wearer’s head. Horton gave the helmet to a Cubs player last weekend in Milwaukee and it has since been seen being worn in the dugout during games.
Horton tells the State Journal-Register that he’s been “overwhelmed” by the attention his helmet has drawn.
