The former president of the Jacksonville Association of Realtors has gone on trial in Morgan County for the 2013 stabbing death of his ex-stepfather-in-law.
51-year-old Robert Heitbrink is accused of killing 70-year-old William McElhaney after accusing the victim of inappropriately touching Heitbrink’s children. Police later interviewed the children, who claimed that no such touching had taken place.
Heitbrink faces between 20 and 60 years in prison, if convicted of the first-degree murder charge. The trial is expected to last into the middle of next week.
