Bill Proposed in Illinois Senate to Force Weekly Meetings Between Governor and Legislative Leaders During Budget Impasse

A freshman state senator has introduced a bill that would require Governor Bruce Rauner and the four legislative leaders to meet each week until the budget impasse is resolved.

Democratic Senator Julie Morrison introduced a bill this week that would force a weekly meeting of at least one hour.

Morrison says the meetings laid out in Senate Bill 2190 would be public, because the public needs to know why there is no budget in place.

Governor Rauner’s office says Morrison should urge her party to pass the Governor’s reforms or pass a “truly balanced budget”. Speaker Mike Madigan’s spokesperson, Steve Brown, told the press that Morrison’s bill seems to be a public relations stunt.
