Chicago Public Schools to Allow Transgender Students to Access Bathroom of Identified Gender

The nation’s third-largest public school district has become the latest to say that its students may use the bathroom of the gender that they identify with, rather than the one that matches their birth gender.

The Chicago Public Schools announced on Tuesday the release of new rules outlining access rules for bathrooms and locker rooms, saying that they will ensure that transgender students – as well as those “questioning their identity” – will have the same educational opportunities as other students.

CPS also says the policy applies to overnight field trips and additional accommodations may be made as needed on an individual basis.
